SANDPIPER, by Ellen Wittlinger posted by Mrs. Schauer

Fifteen year old Sandpiper Ragsdale Hollow has made some mistakes with boys--with quite a few boys. It started as a way to get one certain boy to like her--and it worked, for a while. Then there was the next boy, and the next...and before she knew it, she had a reputation as a "bad girl." She's not sure why, but as soon as a boy really starts to like her, she tires of him, casts him aside and moves on to the next one. When one of her rejected suitors decides to get even with her, at first...it's just annoying. Then, he gets more and more violent and threatening, until his rage turns to violence. Can Sandpiper turn her life and reputation around? Why are some mistakes so much harder to live down than others? Why can some girls get away with certain behaviors, and she's judged for them? And what about the Walker, the mysterious loner she befriends...what secrets is he hiding? Could he be different than the other boys she's known? It would be easy for me to give away everything....but then what would be your incentive to read this fantastic book? I highly recommend it--it's a quick, page-turning read.

  1. okay so here it goes... I'm totally not done with the book, but so far its really good. The Walker seems like a really nice guy. And, he doesn't seem to judge her by what she just told him. I wonder what his name is? I hope I finish this book soon!:-o

  2. aaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!! I finished it! I'm so happy and so sad at the same time. I LOVE THIS BOOK!! I've read 2 good books in a row, man how awesome. The story was great. I found out Walker's name. His name is... (no never mind ) read the book and you will find out. Really read it. Other than finding out the Walker's name you also find out what he has been hiding. I thought it was so sad. And he is so nice. Once again, the story was great I really did like it. Even though I wanted to finish the book I also didn't want to. And I wonder did they go to trial with Derek? What happened? I hope there's a second part. Don't you think so? It's just such a sweet story!!!! :-)

  3. I am so glad you liked it...I loved it too. I am trying to think of my next recommendation for you; you're such a voracious reader, it's hard to keep up! Don't you love it when you like a book so much that you don't want it to end? I felt the same way about To Kill a Mockingbird when I read it as an adult...I wasn't crazy about it when I HAD to read it in high school, but the second, and third time were awesome...

  4. Hi Rebecca,

I'm so glad you liked Sandpiper so much, and that you're such a voracious reader! (So am I...) I have a bunch of other books you might want to try too. Check out my website to read about them--www.ellenwittlinger.com.

    Love your blog, Mrs. Schauer!
